Professor Walter Conz, private painting and etching teacher and acting as head of the graphics department of Karlsruhe Kunstakademie “Malerinnenschule” created this large etched portrait after the paining of Rembrandt’s selfportriat in 1906. The painting is since 250 years treasured in Karlsruhe Kunstmuseum after it was rescued by the American “Monuments Men” from its shelter against allied bombing.

These 2 different versions were found together, in a house clearing. They had been obviously neglected for a long time. Besides large (36 x 44 cm. ) and impressive prints they must also be pretty rare because of the absence in internet auction history and the only other copy found in Karlsruhe Kunstmuseum “Kupferstichkabinet” (prints department)
