Some other (choice) examples by the artist. The painted portrait is titled euphemisically “Lebedame” a word that had to looked up. Meaning in German: “Courtisane, Edelnutte”. In American probably: hooker. In English: tart. But I like best the mocking “Edelnutte” (superior prostitute). Awarded as an artist an article in Dutch Elseviers magazine in 1928.
Three Women (Graces)
Best known as an awarded Dutch colour woodblock printmaker by his “gypsie” or “travellers” prints. Lesser known as a painter because early in his career decided to dedicate altogether to woodblock printmaking. He received the prestigious Willink van Collen Prize in 1925 an encouraging prize for his painting of the female nude. Besides he was fine portrait drawer and flower painter.
