How did he do it  ?

2 blocks. Simple and highly effective. Just 2 blocks (piece of linoleum) were needed to do this 4 Canadian geese (Branta canadensis). The original print was flipped (mirrored to better illustrate). A transparent blue-grey wash over the black keyblock was all what was needed.

3 blocks. The yellow linoleum block was first used for transferring the design drawing onto the other two detail blocks: black and dark brown and last a final light brown “wash”. (Flipped blocks)

Tufted ducks (“Kuifeend”), Aythya fuligula. Just 2 blocks and the clever use of the white of the paper. 27 x 32 cm.

Flipped blocks for illustration.
