“Gartentor” 1914

Etching by this obscured and forgotten Leipzig artist who was involved in the organisation and interior design of the 1914 Leipzig BUGRA exhibitions in “Das Haus der Frau” pavilion. She was not represented among the exhibiting artist. How this copy ended up in London is still a puzzle but it was probably brought in the beloved belongings of (Jewish) refugees seeking shelter from the Nazis. 


The portrait is her sister Doris (1882-1968), one of the first German women to graduate from university with a doctorate in Germany. Besides a political career the sisters also shared their graves.  Read more in the accompanying this collection biographies book
