Le Pont Neuf

Gen Paul was a Parisian painter and etcher who learned the aquatint etching technique from master etcher Eugène Delâtre in his studio in Montmartre. As a tribute to his teacher he signed his prints with the alias Paul Trélade (anagram) and is also known to have used Eug. Lautral as alias in his mainly Montmartre’s iconic streets, squares and monuments  inspired etchings. His impressionist etchings are very different from his expressionist colourful paintings. In 1922 20 of his coloured etchings were used in Antoine Parmenier’s book aboput Montmartre (details: Gen Paul’s short biography in the accompanying lexicon).

Recently another alias was suspected after finding and comparing 2 other Parisian works very similar in style and execution. This signature is not yet completely clear: E. Lautral, also read as E. Camix
