The Cockatoo has been in my collection for many years. The “Probedruck, Papagei” like the macaw printed in thick layers of paint showed up recently (Spring 2022) and was acquired for the collection.

Gerd Schniewind was a little known Hamburg printmaker known from only a few coloured prints. His best known print is a view of medieval iconic Steckelhörnfleet in the heart of the ancient city of Hamburg. Once rivaling with Amsterdam and Venice for its many canals and beauty it was all destroyed by allied bombing.
