Only few examples of Gottlieb Teufel’s etchings (probably all printed in very low editions) appear in auctions. His “Jesus preaching before a crowd” shows his admiration for Rembrandt. These two examples (above) were found together and show his fascination (and mastering) of Claire-Obscure the distribution of light and dark in the composition.

Dear print lover, passing-by visitor and reader:
While this new gallery-museum site is under construction (being build-up, stocked and arranged) priority must be given to first add all the represented artists in the index with works from the collection and if possible with the examples from the archives.
During construction the site is open to visitors, questions, feedback and suggestions.

Gottlieb Teufel
(Willstätt Baden 1887 - 07-06-1925 Höchschür/Herrieschried)
Painter and graphic artist. Eldest of 6 children from a resident Willstät family. Attended Willstätt “Volksschule” und spend 3 years in Strassburg “Kunstgewerbeschule” before entering Munich “Kunstacademie” studying, interrupted by WW-I, under symbolic painter and Munich Seccesion founding member Franz von Stück (1863-1928) who also taught Wasily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
Married 1933 Margarete von Ravenstein from on old noble family and estate who nursed him in 1915 in Strasburg Lazarett (Army Field Hospital).
Trying to recover from his war injuries he bought a farmhouse in Hochscharzwald, but died because of his war injuries in 1925. Considering some of his apocalyptic and demonic etchings his injuries may have been mental, surviving and witnessing the atrocities of WW-I.
He was awarded many times as promising master of etching. When found his etching seem to have very low edition numbers (5, 10) and all show a strong sense of Claire-obscure (distribution of dark and light areas).
An etching of Jesus preaching before a crowd showed his admiration for Rembrandt.
