Piet Wijngaerdt (1873 - 1946)

“Paris - Le Pont Marie” (looking into Rue des deux ponts)

Possibly created by painter Piet Wijngaerdt in 1901-1902 when, according to Adriaan Venema’s book “Nederlandse Schilders in Paris 1900-1940” the artist stayed in Paris. Contemporary of George Breitner (1857-1923) who 15 years before also lived and worked in Paris.

Below: French artists Raymond Renefer (1879-1957) and Armand Guillaumin (1841-1927).

Both in the above drawing as well in Renefer’s, a woman with a bag of laundry, to or from one of the moored “Bateaux Lavoirs”  can be seen, and drawn by horse or man carriages, no automobiles yet.
