“Sylt”

This is not the place to write an essay on the work of Fritz Zalisz. These island pictures are here to accompany and illustrate the woodblock print he created on Sylt for his limited edition folio (“Mappe “) “Terra” which held three monochrome woodblock prints.

Archived (and digitally “cleaned”) from past auctions this series of drawings following Zalisz’ visit to the Island of Sylt. Brilliant in “simplicity” (they are not) creating space and depth and because of  the “less is more” principle (the art of leaving out), of Notan (distribution of black and white) and of control of line.

And there’s this….. by the same artist another of nature’s most beautiful landscapes: the reclining female nude. Monogrammed J.F.Z.: Josef Fritz (Friedrich) Zalisz. After his father Josef Zalisz a Bohemian goldsmith and juweler.
